lj on hold.. [Nov. 19th, 2009|11:39 am]
probably not posted on here in a while...not having my own computer does that i guess.

so what's gone down...came off Dole for a temp job at LeedsUni for just over a month. that was Dullsville, hardly any work to do (espesh compared to the previous job), but was more money than Dole & there was free coffee! my replacement was KateMyers (Toms sister, Slims missus), which was weird, but cool also, feel i've definitely made a friend there...obvz knew her already, but spending all day every day training her up etc, she's a good'un.
back on Dole again, got rent paid until NewYear so there's not a huge necessity to get another job (benefits comes to around £250 a fortnight), but will be looking again next week...this week i'm dealing with illness.

dee's still doing a medical placement in Grimsby, as well as studies in York and Hull...been lucky to get to see her most weekends recently, but it's still a drain! she was down wi illness (flu) last week, so now i have it. sucks, but am attacking it with a mix of various supplements (fishoil, vitC, ecinachea etc), lemon+ginger+honey teas (3 a day), garlic-heavy meals, showers&baths through the day, fishermans friends, lots of naps/big sleeps (last night was 7pm-8am) and probably other stuff i can't remember. seems to be moderately working, the next few days will be the worst of it so should hopefully be recovered for gigs on Sun&Mon (Sheff&Leeds).

the band have recorded & secured 3 seperate releases - a wacky 3" tinned CD being done by a Southern label, and 7" + cassette to follow in the new year by two Leeds labels. also trying to sort out a dot.com for us, but this is a headache! haha, and we've got a small pic&interview piece in the next issue of Terrorizer, somehow! hopefully once the southern label puts their release out the gigs will come flooding in, need to sort a tour soons.

still need a housemate, still laden with toooo many debts, still need new trainers, thats about it i reckon.

choc eclairs! [Sep. 9th, 2009|11:43 am]
dole life is weird - it seems an obvious connection, but as the stability of upwardly mobile routine slips out of your life so does any middle-ground of an existence. and so, life of late has either been a pulse-slowing crawl of occasional necessities (shop, cook, eat, sleep) or a turbo-charged adrenaline-ride of Awesome (Grantham and LeedsFest being two recent examples). Had another awesome day on Saturday. Slow-paced morning, then me & Dee found our way to Chapel Allerton via some buses. Street Festival'd it up, i bought 3 books & a rap CD, as well as some massively disappointing parsnip "crisps" (crisp? i think we have different definitions. how about Parsnip Tears?), found Darren&Sarah at a pub, and an old work-mate was doing some kids story-telling thing, then a street BBQ ("i've been here 3 times now and every year there's more babies!" - partying with the 30-somethings!) then home for pizza & taxi to Sandanista for drinks with Carrie&Arike. Hit up several bars - it appears ID is still a deal-breaker for all but the most resilient of drinkers. mark us up into this catergory, getting into 2 bars that tried to keep us out!
i feel like today's gonna be reet too, though no plans as yet. started really getting into a book this morning. it grabbed me for 2 hours, and it was all it took to get away from it some time close to 11.
no plans anytime soon, i plan to read lots and eat well!

films of late... [Aug. 25th, 2009|10:13 am]
Catch Me If You Can was a genuine surprise, and something of a headfuck of a "Hollywood" movie. Very clever, very sincere and an ending which reinforced the "truth is stranger than fiction" phrase. Not quite sure how "real" some of it felt, like a 17 year old blagging just that much, but hell, he did it IRL (that's In Real Life to the non-abbreviation-savy!) so..yeah, truth really is stranger than fiction! Made me want to develop scams, but i fear technologies have come along too far now.
The Hangover, an absolute fucking blast of Dude Cinema! Not sure if it'll be a repeat-viewer, but am actually more than willing to shell out for the DVD to find out, if only for potential extra's. Zach Galifianakis fully stole it - he's a brilliant stand up comedian i've been into for a while, but this character is at the same time worlds away from his comedy but also Very him..buddy movie where they all dislike each other, somehow works though!
Clerks has been a staunch favourite of mine ever since my mum rented it out for me, and i sat in another room watching it alone whilst mum and brother watched what he chose. My brother rob has since also caught the Kevin Smith bug (Mallrats, Dogma, Chasing Amy etc) and said he remembers the night i watched it & hearing the laughter through the walls. It's actually brilliant. it is. if you Really want to be anal about it, there's a mild lag in the film after the funeral stuff, but i guess it's necessary to take the foot off the Laughter Pedal for the sake of tying up character loose ends, and the rest of the film does amazing work of dragging a storyline aloneside the funniest/dirtiest gags.
Oldboy was given to me by our Liam before he went away and i'd put off watching it for the longest time purely due to the "i want to eat something alive" scene. Same thing happened back-in-the-day with Resevoir Dogs - i'd heard about the ear slicing scene and decided the film wasn't for me, then when i finally checked it out i realised what a idiot move it was to be put off something for the sake of one "controversial" moment in it. Same thing here, this film is Fucking Brilliance. There were 3 seperate scenes that i had to fastforward through though! Crazy story, crazier action scenes and something of a sadly bittersweet/realistic ending..watched it a few times already and can't wait to watch it with Dee soon (albeit, predicting many "Pause, explain the plot" moments! Japanese cinema, i've decided, is something i need to invest further in...gutted i lost my copy of Survive Style 5+, that shit's loco!!!

Actually have a day of activity today...was up early, exercise & brekkie, hit the road for 9, net it up here at Leeds Met, dole at 11:20, lunch with Darren at the old office & job hunt with his internet, home for 3ish to get a little distro set up for tonights gig, cook for me & Theo, train to Barnsley, drive to Grantham...just found out 2 American bands have been added to the bill, and the fucking awesome Closure are also playing so Vmuch looking forward to this.

Been watching that Monday Monday "ITV Drama" recently. nowhere near as funny as the initial trailers made out, but still meh OK. actually, no, it's Actually hugely generic and obvious and lowest-common-denominator, but i was bored....hmmm, i liked that show before i actually thought about if it was good. strange how TV does that to ya!

oh, and got my last pay cheque today from the last job, a sizable amount more than i was expecting.....hmmmmm, to be sensible or to be frivolous?! might buy new clothes tomorrow..Primark, like, so not spending any huge amounts, but still.

dole. [Aug. 24th, 2009|10:58 am]
on the hunt again, new job needed.
after initially trying to give me reasons why they weren't happy with my work and i basically shot them all down they just said "oh, and the management have told us our department needs to lose 1 member due to cut-backs..." and with me still being within my 6 month job probation, i was the obvious (means they only have to pay me 2 weeks notice pay..). I took it all with a smile and said Goodbye to the folk i liked in that place before leaving, then giving a final 2-finger-salute to the place once out the door!
Dole is all in place, agencies hit up, just got an application for a Council job, we'll see...

new housemate also needed.
ewan's initial "moving out mid/end Aug" turned out to be "first week of Aug" and letting me know at a days notice. on the up-side, means i've finally been able to sort the house out now that it's free of his clutter. Kitchen looks awesome & super practical, livingroom is way more spacious and we've now got a fully fledged useable spare room..now just need to get the landlord to get a gardener to clear the front & back gardens & clear all the clutter from the back yard like he promised to do over a year ago & i've got myself a semi-decent place. Still loads around the house that needs sorting though

Antares are playing out-of-town tomorrow and i'm mad-siked! proper love them guys. Jase, our producer, has gone to Europe wi Lavotchkin for a bit so our recordings are still in limbo, and his promise of "it'll definitely be done by end of August" is now a Duckstab-esque joke.
After practice yesterday we went to see some dude Theo's swapping some amps with. Dude lives in Batley, is this Huge long-haired ginger metal titan of a man who literally has Every amp ever made! he tour manages, and spent 30 minutes reeling off the bands he works/ed with and what amp manufacturers sponsor him whilst we just stood wide-eyed taking it all in - seriously, i've been to some of the best museums in the world (the louvre, blah!) and this guys stretched-shed of livelihood was infinetly more amazing!!! well, maybe to us...
we're all gonna go back (and take friends!!!) next week
"this is one owned by blah blah from Lynard Skynard..this is what Mastadon used when i did their tours...this is from the 50's...i let bands use those guns for photo-shoots...you guys sound like Dillenger? I managed their first tours, still friends with 'em...Peavey gave me 3 of these..."
but somehow didn't come across as bragging, was just talking us through his collection!
anyway, enough about me man-crush!

Guitar-playing is sloooooowly coming on. found a technique book that Storrow gave me a while ago and have been getting to grips with lots of that craziness, as well as the ongoing battle of chord transitions. gonna speak to a man about a band maybe next week. i'm not the right guitarist for the job, but maybe the right man for the job, if that makes sense! a la sid vicious in pistols!! but, anyways, when i get gently let-down from that possibility i'll start thinking about what sort of band i want to do & put the feelers out.
for the meantime, i'm content plugging away wi practice and learning...think i'm gonna pinch a songbook off someone this week & see if i can play songs or summat..doubt i will, but worth a try! me the musician?!

think i'm onto healthy living now. gotta get fit - after yesterdays brief practice, my lungs today do Not feel good! undecided as to whether i'm drinking tomorrow. i mean, what a no-brainer, course i am, but am also tempted to see how the thing goes sober..we'll see. nerves affect vocals, and drink eases nerves.
is nice not having much on my mind at the moment, means the weed angle isn't the necessity it usually is as well. shame though, cos Ben's getting some shockingly good stuff at the moment, shit's like heroin!

Iceland = 8 Lucozades for £3. Planz.

doesn't look like i'm going to LeedsFest this year. was hoping for some generous sort to hook up an ahead-of-time place for moi, but ain't happened. i'm sure if i hustled for it i'd find summat, but just aren't that bothered i guess...i want it to come too easily!

Leeds Met, thanks for the net..

it's like that.. [Aug. 3rd, 2009|12:31 pm]
So, been off work since last Tuesday with illness. A dry cough on Monday meant by Tuesday i could feel the beginnings of that all too familiar friend, Chest Infection.
By 10am it was clear i'd be coughing for the long-haul, so made my excuses & got home.
boring fucking week! did a bit of tidying, but mostly slept & drank/ate healthy stuffs to get better.

think the bar work is behind me now, the last shift there (pre CussedFest) was very much a last straw for the crap i have to deal with working there. was sucking for me & Dee as well, which has been one of many sources of friction between us recently. but, arguments, discussions, a break-up and much reflection later & as of this week we're possibly on track for some awesomeness together finally! and having weekends free now will make things lots easier. of course, her moving to Grimsby in a month won't help matters, but we'll jus make effort & it'll be reet.

antares are still a recording short of where we need to be, but hopefully we'll get this finished when we practice next, hopefully this week...lotta hope involved! and still looking for a keyboard player with mad skills. is frustrating, because pretty much Everything is waiting on the CD being finished...well, there's stuff we (i) can be sorting without it, but its all kinda moot without the music behind it, so that's gonna probably be the impotus in getting everything else sorted (inlay designing, shirts desiging/printing, tours, label chasing, photos etc)...exciting times! i very much have a strategy, but time will tell.

tried learning some guitar chords whilst i've been sat on my bed all last week (TV sucked, seen all my DVD's/Vids) and decided i wanna be in a band. me joining a band on 2nd guitar was mentioned recently, and as much as i'd fucking Love to join the band who mentioned it, i don't think i'll be at that calibre for quite some time, so have decided to just settle on learning chords and then seeing if any rockin bands need a shoddy 2nd guitarist. scribbled 4 chords down before leaving the office last week - i've got the easies A & D nailed, supersuper easy! then the slightly more awkward C and F as a Work In Progress! I remember trying to learn them all a while ago, and getting slightly OK at chord transitions, so looking forward to giving it a proper Learn this time - i think it'll be better because of working towards a goal (band!) rather than just learning for LoLz! ooof, G chord looks a bitch!!

acid reflux has been too prominent in my life recently, wanna work out why & sort that...in the mean time, peppermint tea is helping.

and thats me.
Ps. Awesome that Carrie's been diagnosed, sucks there's a waiting list

piss. [Jul. 23rd, 2009|04:54 pm]
today i'm keeping a record of my eating/drinking/toilet movements - figured it'd be a cool way to work out how's best to stagger the goodness intake. So far it seems it's going to involve many teas through the day. Basically, from getting many strong-coloured wee's i've read up that it's supplement related, though the advice seems totally unsure and there's the usual conflicting "expert" opinions!
first of all gonna work out what supplement/s it is that's causing the colour, then see if it's possible to reduce through taking with meals or whatever...
have read in some places that the strong change in colour might be due to unabsorbed goodnesses from stuff, and figured that when eating cashews, almonds & raisins daily, then smoothie, then supplements, there might be some goodness slipping through the net here...that said, i also remember noticing these colour changes when eating lots of almonds in the past (sans supplements), so might be that i eat too many? anyways, ran outta almonds, so guess i'll see, due to their absence

Morning - No Liquid
9:20 - Slight Yellow, good morning colour
9:30 - Echinacea wi Peppermint Tea
10:00 - Peppermint Tea
10:50 - Less Yellow
11:00 - Biotin x 2 wi Rooibos Tea
11:30 - Carrot & Corriander soup
12:10 - Almost Clear
12:30 - Fish Oil x 2 wi Rooibos Tea
1:15 - Multi Vit wi water & lunch
3:20 - Bright Yellow
3:25 - Probiotic, Q10 & Bilberry wi Peppermint Tea
4:20 - Green Tea
4:45 - Bright Yellow

Plan - Same again tomorrow, minus the Fish Oil, as i think this is the one giving my wee strange colours.

weekend. [Jul. 17th, 2009|01:39 pm]
picked up some Postman Pat cookie mix from a PoundShop after work yesterday, also grabbed Vince Vaughns Wild West Comedy Show on DVD - definetly worth picking up. nothing amazing, but for £1 it's a decent buy

tonight i am off work. tomorrow i am off work. this feels OK. to be honest, this morning i was thinking i'd prefer to be working tonight than doing nowt.

in health news, got another off in our office with the "flu symptoms" reason, and i feel slightly off. i only feel, say, 10% not alright, but what doesn't feel right (very mild cold type symptoms in sinuses & feel a bit more out-of-breath than i usually do) are supposedly the signs of this thing. will see how i feel tomorrow, if it persists til monday i might speak with the boss..actually, i'll mention it today, really feel loads more out-of-breath than usual, but think it's because of the air pressure more than anything.

can't wait for payday next week, gonna make a bee-line for Holland&Barretts and stock up..here's my list of supplements : Multi Vit/Mineral, Calcium, Garlic, Grapeseed Extract, CoEnzymeQ10, Probiotic, Bilberry, Echinacea, Fish Oil, Curcumin, l-Carnitine, Biotin, Ginger, Arginine. Got a few others, and some stuff i might get (folic acid, milk thistle..), some i take daily, some weekly (Echinacea, arginine, carnitine)...still rocking almonds, cashews & raisins washed down wi 500ml of a kick-ass smoothie for brekkie, a small soup for 11sies, humus & seededbatch sarnies for lunch & many cups of herbal teas through the day (peppermint, rooibos & green, though i don't have much green tea cos of its caffeine)...disposable income is a dangerous thing, but i'd rather spend it on this than booze i guess...
but, yeah, my point is that hopefully i'll be going into this "inevitable" flu with a fairly strong system.

speaking of booze, this weekend! Jane's last weekend as an unmarried, i hope to help celebrate the occasion with much booze with her, and whoever else is rockin the party vibe...tonight is most likely me & tim, and maybe hangs wi whoever's about.

reet, back to the sarnie..

little young thing, she liked to do the tongue thing.. [Jul. 16th, 2009|12:54 pm]
fully cool night last night, cooked a 3-course effort & Lewis&Sarah came over, was an actual double-date (though i didn't know Sarah was coming over til they arrived)...foods, drinks, films (Planes,Trains&Automobiles and Sleeper) and good chats.

arrived today at work to a swineflu email sent around the company once again telling us :

"If you develop any of these symptoms while at work and start to feel unwell, it is important that you do not simply carry on working. Report your symptoms to your Line Manager and go home."

2 people are off already with "flu-like symptoms" and jus overheard someone reporting another to HR cos "if she's ill she shouldn't be here", which is cool that they're kinda actively enforcing it, but have heard the mild splutters of coughs slowly spreading across the office today and so can well imagine we'll be on ghost-ship staff levels by next week!

right, so....Swine Flu. Basically, the general thing seems to be that no-one's immune, there won't be a vaccine til early 2010 at the earliest (late 2009 now seems like it isn't happening), and Everyone's going to catch it. So, Everyone in the country will, at some point this year, fall foul of flu & be laid up in bed for a week. Really?! this is 2009 for fricks sake, suddenly all those Defence Budgets and Our Lads Overseas seems like the wrong investment - terrorism is absolute bullshit (as are those wars) but this is a Real thing they've been expecting for years, it's occured a lot later than expected and the Government are still underprepared. pack of losers, i'd fire the lot

so i've been covering reception as our receptionist is off ill, and (though haven't actually been told yet) she's taking holiday time from tomorrow til middle of next week...so am gonna be V busy. am covering a few duties of another guy who's off for 2 weeks n'all, busybusy. Makes the days go quicker so can't complain.
job's going OK, in control of everything except booking audits, which is crap. i'm the guy who has to ring companies & tell 'em they're being audited..needless to say, some are a tad reticent to arrange dates with me, i am satan!

dunno what to have for lunch...might go for a walk to the chipshop!

payday next fri, win.

Juvi on Sat?

plans [Jul. 15th, 2009|12:13 pm]
well, after hearing yesterday that a company we were due to audit is now unable to due to being shut down with Swine Flu, and then last night that a friend of Dee's also studying medicine & on a work placement treated someone with Swine Flu, but only got told after the event, it swoops a little closer to home again with someone who sits on the next bank of desks from me off ill today with "flu-like symptoms"...and apparently, someone his girlfriend knows has caught it. you can only ignore the recurring instances for so long i guess, but for now at least my mind is still in the "lets wait & see" mode, no real panic yet.

ran out of one of my jars of supplements today so guess i'm something over a month into the Healthy Living thing..good timing for the sake of impending armageddon
evening meals was the one area i was falling down with the health, but am back on-point with that - cooked a massive amount of garlic-strong pasta sauce last night, and going to do a massive amount of soup tonight (Dee's collecting ingredients, so no idea what it'll turn out like..). Last night i also made some special butter, the plan tonight is awesome soup action followed by awesome american-style pancakes served warm wi ice-cream & canni-butter. wonder if i've made it right!

recordings are taking longer-still..can't mix the last of the vocals til we're over again to practice, and now that Danny's gone on holiday (drummer), when he gets back Jase (Producer) is busy for weeks after...nevermind. would've been cool to have it ready for Cussedfest but..it'll have to wait. there's talk of labels, think we've settled on who we want to go with, but first step is getting this damn thing finished!

oh, and...Juvi anyone?!

Ewans more than likely moving to Brighton within a month, so i need a new housemate....gonna perform an absolute house overhaul in the next week, get it fully cleaned & sorted.
so, yeah, put the word out...£225 rent, bills on top, front & back garden, massive kitchen, decent livingroom, average sized bedroom, box-room for storage, one end of the street has Burley Park, the other had Burley Park Train Station & Co-Op.
reet, lunch.

not busy!!! [Jun. 26th, 2009|08:33 am]
this week has been Hard. fun, but hard.
the weekend was also the above, V hard but V fun. the bar-shifts rocked, and a bunch of us met up at Nation Of Shopkeepers for Sunday Lunch which slowly escilated into a 10 hour drinking session across Leeds. i might've had a little lye down in the park on the way home!

Monday, after a day of Hangover at work, hung wi bro's til Tue morning, then went home.

Tuesday, after another hangover day (Jenna & Rose made mojito's, Lewis had rum), Dee came over and after hooking up some Incredible vodka drinks and foods we went to Packhorse for a gig. band called Graf Orlock who did real fast/tight hardcore stuffs (with a "we use too many samples" gimmick in tow). i was into 'em though, and they had really good shirt designs so bought a kick-ass shirt!

Wednesday, after...yeah, you guessed, rushed home, rushed a drug-buy, rushed back into town to meet a comedian-friend of mine, Mark. He was playing a gig in Halifax so i said i'd come along, and there were 10 comedians on that night so figured i'd more than likely see summat good.
I was high as space and on the Orangboom so i was destined to have a cool night regardless, but it was such a fucking funny night! we got a taxi from the train station and it jus kept going....like, out of the citycentre, up hills, into country-side....we were like "wtf"
turns out the venue was next to a dry ski slope in the hills outside Halifax.
proper country-pub as fuck, nothing around for miles.
without going into details about the whole night, which was genuinely worth comment cos the whole thing was awesome, a thoroughly weird/good night was had. we got a lift back with another comedian who also dropped 2 of the others off, the other 2 being...bah, you'll have to wait and see! Peter was a brilliant deadpan surprise of comdey talent, Karl was just an oddity. but in the best possible way.

Thursday, ...., it was the Carrie & Steve Hangouts, Seinfeld & Food show, which is also a triumphant Win. Ho Garden? Oh, Hells yes! hahahaha, just remembered i've got left-overs in the fridge! We got through about 6 episodes before Carrie started to lag, which sucks when you've got a drive-home ahead of you, so we called it a night there. Hangouts next week OB? I'll find a comedy-gig, see if we can get folk together for it..

Friday - today - i've got the day off work, fucking AMAZING!!!! and got the weekend off bar-work as well, so right now i feel like i'm on holiday!
it's brilliant, really...i totally never have free time at the moment, so really appreciating this shit.
I'm off to Barnsley in an hour or so, gotta finish up the Antares recordings.
Not sure if i'm stopping over, coming back, whatever, but i'm sure Party will be involved.
I know i've probably gone on about it a bit already, but really can't wait to get this thing done - feel like i need the validation of Praise for all the fucking effort we've all put into these songs...not the recordings, that's mainly Jase Sanderson who's sorted us out, but over the past year or so learning and building the songs. we've clearly got better songs in us down the line, but these are fairly fucking great to my ears, can't wait to be able to have others opinions once we've got a more accurate representation of us recorded, cos the demo'd tracks lacked.

Michael Jackson has died then. that's pretty fucked. 50.
Sadness aside, i smell a rat. i'll say no more, other than - he knew he was going to die.

Saturday - Lock&Keys and Plight at Cockpit.

reet, gonna get up + outta bed

"theres a joke here somewhere and its on me" [Jun. 16th, 2009|04:39 pm]
had a pretty decent start to the day...woke super-early, got ready, chilled with Magic, walked into town through the park, treated myself to pancakes&syrup at McDonalds..sat down, looked up, saw Leckie. we breakfast'd and chatted.
i'm patiently waiting to be called into a meeting to discuss just how bad i am at doing 2 peoples jobs. The meeting was going to be last week, then re-arranged several times yesterday, re-arranged several times today, and now put off til Thursday. Never know, the meeting could be to praise my lacklustre efforts in being Administrator-and-Receptionist-in-one for 3 weeks, all i know is i busted my ass for the whole time and didn't get anything Near a hint of appreciation.

the girl who's job i took over was in the job for almost exactly 6 months before she handed in her notice to leave to live in Australia. she is related to the receptionist. there's a £1000 Recommend-A-Friend scheme with getting new blood into the company, which is payable after 6 months. i wonder how long it takes from deciding you want to live in another country to then getting the Visa's and savings and application all completed and processed? hope my job isn't brushing up the loose ends of someone who never intended to stay in the job for more than 6 months...

my random-play MP3 music this morning was strangely prophetic, might make big changes soon, we'll see..and Dixie Chicks have reasserted themselves in my mind as Frickin awesome, seriously.

Hangs with Carrie have snowballed into cinema with All, going to see the new Terminator film. i'm gonna get there early so i can get sugar'd up with a slushpuppy + use insane amounts of coins in the arcades!!! got loads of change around the house, so gonna collect it all..maybe even see what machines are foreign-currency-friendly! defo getting some sorta photo thingy done, like the one where a fake artist paints your portrait?!

was hoping the JuiceBar would be open when i walked through town earlier, was gonna kick off the day with a shot of wheatgrass, but alas, no dice. after my pancake fix it was goodness though..had a load of almonds, cashews and raisins for breakfast, with a kickass smoothie drink, then a carrot+corriander soup at 11:30...humus sarnies for lunch.

bought the My So-Called Life boxset over a month ago, and am just getting into disc3 now, goddamn its some emotional shit...last night i was high as space muttering "fire him...fire him.." before she turned to him and said "i love you, but...your fired" and it broke me! might give a few more episodes a watch after cine-fun tonight

and in closing..it's 1pm, i'd like to go for lunch now, but as ever i'm waiting..

phew, the day rushed away before i could put this up! i'm now getting slightly giddy at the prospect of arcades + junkfood...beats the shit outta this place!!!
